A sustained growth of economy and the labor market would reduce the country’s poverty: CONEVAL

 


According to the 2008 Evaluation Report on Social Development Policy in Mexico, by the National Council for the Evaluation of Social Development Policy, at national level the number of employed people in Mexico has grown 65.3 percent from 1992 to 2006. 

However, during period with a 1.6 percent average annual growth of the GNP per capita (1992 - 2006), it is necessary to disaggregate the occupation into formal and informal to know the evolution of occupation in these 14 years.

 

The Report points out that the occupation that has grown considerably is informal and not formal employment: between 1992 and 2006 there was a net growth of almost 5.1 million formal jobs – workers with formal social security: IMSS, ISSSTE, Petróleos Mexicanos (PEMEX), Ministry of Marine (SEMAR)—, but during the same period, informal employment – employed people without social security and who are not their own bosses- grew by 10.2 million people, twice the growth of formal employment according to different year ENIGHs.
