World Health Day

The World Health Organization (WHO) is founded in April 7, World Health Day, and it constitutes an annual opportunity to call the world’s attention on the most important subject to achieve health.

In this sense, the National Council for the Evaluation of Social Development Policy (CONEVAL) Social Gap Index estimates, based on the 2005 Population and Housing Count, that in Mexico 49.78 percent of people report not receiving medical care at public or private institutions

The states of the Mexican Republic with a greater gap under this item are: Chiapas (76.4 percent), Oaxaca (75.7 percent), Guerrero (74.1 percent), Michoacán (70.3 percent), and Tlaxcala (63.5 percent).

The Mexican states with a lower gap access to health services are: Colima (26.3 percent), Aguascalientes (26.9 percent), Nuevo León (28.1 percent), Coahuila (29.0 percent), and Sonora (30.3 percent).

The CONEVAL Social Gap Index incorporates indicators that enable a multidimensional poverty measurement. These indicators are: education, access to health services, basic services, home quality and spaces, and home assets.

With this, it intends to contribute to the generation of information for better decision making in matters of social policy, facilitating the location of priority attention areas, as is set forth by the General Law of Social Development.
